Fusion Firearms XP Pro Comp — Review and Range Impressions
Fusion Firearms has carved out a loyal following by putting performance first and marketing fluff somewhere near the recycle bin. Their XP Pro Comp continues that trend by offering a compensated duty-style pistol that shoots flatter than you’d expect, stays controllable under rapid fire, and manages to blend good ergonomics with surprisingly refined manners.
There are plenty of compensated pistols on the market. Some cheat recoil well but turn into a handful when it comes to reliability. Others look the part but aren’t actually tuned for balanced gas venting and muzzle stability. The XP Pro Comp doesn’t fall into either trap.
At its core, this pistol pairs Fusion’s proven 1911 barrel/slide approach with a threaded and ported comp system that actually makes a measurable difference in tracking between shots. Sight picture recovery feels natural rather than forced, the gas dispersion is balanced, and the front barely lifts off line. Recoil impulse settles straight back into the wrist instead of snapping upward, giving you faster follow-up shots without needing to muscle the gun back down.
Accuracy is strong and predictable. The frame and slide lockup gives the pistol a mechanical consistency you can count on while the trigger breaks cleanly with minimal grit or hesitation. This isn’t one of those “looks great on paper but feels mushy in hand” situations. It performs like a serious shooter.
Fusion also includes two optic plates — one RMR footprint and one RMSc footprint — making it easy to mount most modern micro-red dots without hunting down aftermarket solutions. For this review build, an RMR-footprint optic was installed, specifically the Gowutar GP-9, which offers one of the widest glass displays in its class at a price point that’s borderline ridiculous. It’s a simple, affordable way to give the XP Pro Comp a sighting system that takes full advantage of its flat recoil behavior.
On paper, it may read like another compensated pistol entry. In hand, it's slicker than snot on a door knob. The comp actually does its job, the ergonomics are shooter-friendly without feeling gimmicky, and the gun behaves like something tuned by people who know what recoil management is supposed to feel like.
In short, this is a pistol that rewards real range time. Accurate, controllable, optic-ready, and backed by a company that didn’t phone in the engineering. If you’re looking for a comped pistol that performs without shouting hype at you, this one deserves a serious look.
