When it comes to optics, there’s no shortage of options claiming to be “duty-ready” or “budget-friendly.” The problem? Few can actually deliver both. Cyelee Optics sent me two very different models—the CAT EDG enclosed emitter pistol red dot and the GT10 green dot with co-witness riser—to see if they could back up the talk with real-world performance.
I mounted the CAT EDG on my Shadow Systems CR920XL, and installation was a breeze. It uses the RMSc footprint, making it a natural fit for micro-compacts like the Glock 43X MOS, Glock 48 MOS, SIG P365, and similar pistols. Being an enclosed emitter optic, it’s built to shrug off lint, sweat, rain, and range grime—ideal for a carry gun that’s going to be exposed to the elements.
The housing is machined from 7075 aluminum, drop-rated for 6 feet onto concrete, IPX7 waterproof, and powered by a side-loading CR1620 battery. The 3 MOA dot is crisp, the glass is clear, and Shake Awake ensures the optic is always ready without draining the battery. Speaking of battery life—up to 50,000 hours means you won’t be swapping cells often.
Price: The CAT EDG comes in around $260–$280, which is solid value for a duty-grade enclosed emitter in this feature set.
The GT10 went on my Extar EP-9, and it was dialed in right out of the box. It features a 3 MOA green dot, Shake Awake with Motion Deactivated Standby, and up to 50,000 hours of runtime on a CR2032. Like the CAT EDG, it’s IPX7 waterproof and built from aircraft-grade aluminum, but this one’s aimed at platforms like PCCs, shotguns, or braced pistols.
It offers 8 daylight and 2 night vision brightness settings, parallax-free glass, and comes with a riser mount for a lower 1/3 co-witness. While the co-witness is just barely in the bottom of your sight picture, it’s still a valuable option for backup iron sight users.
Price: The GT10 is an incredible value at $79–$80, making it one of the most affordable green dot options with co-witness capability right out of the box.
Both optics held zero and delivered clear, consistent sight pictures. The CAT EDG stood out in low-light transitions, where the enclosed design kept the emitter clean and visible. The GT10’s green dot and quick acquisition made it ideal for engaging multiple targets, especially in run-and-gun style drills.
These optics serve different purposes, and they each perform solidly in their roles. The CAT EDG is a rugged, no-nonsense choice for a carry pistol that needs to perform in all conditions. The GT10 offers flexibility, brightness, and co-witness capability for a variety of platforms.
For shooters looking for dependable performance without overspending, both deserve a serious look.
